Coking Coal

Metallurgical coal, commonly referred to as coking coal forms one of the main inputs required for the production of steel (mainly used in iron and steel making industries). The quality of product is influenced by the coal rank, composition, mineral content and the ability to soften when heated.

Bituminous class coals of high, medium, and low volatile rank that possess these properties are called “coking” coals.

Quality coking coal is in great demand by steel producers, who need these coals to make high quality coke to maximise the productivity of their blast furnace operations.
